Update on Installer

We are currently finishing up the development and testing of Installer. We might have to postpone the delivery of the software by a few days due to some last minute roadblocks.

We are confident to solve these issues quickly and are working hard to release Installer asap. However we prefer to release a working piece of software rather than selling beta software. So we ask you for a bit more of your patience. We promise, you won’t be disappointed.

Infos on the current Jailbreak situation

We currently do NOT provide an own jailbreak tool yet. Therefore you will have to jailbreak your AppleTV yourself - you can use these instructions.

For now we decided to focus on more important aspects such as usability and new plugins. We will provide an appropriately integrated solution at a later point in time.

Installer is here !

It took us a bit longer than expected, but here we are with a preview of our first product for AppleTV 2G ! Installer is currently being tested thoroughly to ensure we don’t have to sell Beta-software like others do ;-)

Once we start selling Installer, it will be fully functional, and we will keep adding functionality to it constantly.

Our Installer for AppleTV 2G will soon be available at patchstick.ca and will allow you to maintain 3rd party plugins with the click of your remote. Many other goodies will be included, so keep following us on twitter.

We are thinking about offering a reduced pre-order price for Installer, let us know what you think about it.

Jailbreaking AppleTV2 - current status

Many of you probably checked the greenpois0n website frantically on the weekend, trying to download the jailbreak tool for AppleTV that was announced by the chronicdev team.
Dramatic events happened with Geohot alias Gerge Hotz finally releasing his jailbreak tool limera1n, causing greenpois0n to be delayed and AppleTV fans being sad and mad…
Although limera1n will technically jailbreak your AppleTV, you won’t be able to install any kind of apps (they are still being worked on), nor access the file system via afc or ssh connection. greenpois0n is supposedly including ssh support to remotely login to a jailbroken AppleTV.

A pretty good summary about all the events from last weekend can be found here.

AppleTV2 update - help us to find a name for product “black”

As you probably all know by now, the new AppleTV has been jailbroken, and the whole community is busy trying to figure out how to port existing plugins to the new AppleTV and develop new plugins for it.
We are no stranger to that and are of course doing our share ;-) While we work on a new product for the black AppleTV, we will of course continue to support the first version of AppleTV and offer new plugins for it. Development is already on its way, and you will be surprised what your AppleTV will be capable of…
As for the new product, we don’t have a time line yet. We rather do it right in the first place than rushing – developing a good product takes time, so we ask you to be patient with us. We are still debating if there will be a beta phase or not.
We also don’t have a name yet and are open for ideas – send us your suggestions via twitter. If we choose the name suggested by you, you will receive a free lifetime license of our new product. We are sure you can come up with something better than “patchstick black”…
And while you wait for news, why not follow us on twitter and enter our newest contest where you can win a free license for our patchstick service.
